What is Resident Tax?

Prefectural Tax and Municipal Tax are together called Resident Tax. Resident Tax is imposed on the earnings of the previous year and should be paid to municipalities where the tax payer lived as of January 1. For employed person, the tax is directly collected from the person’s salary, but for the person whose tax is not collected from its salary, notification is sent from city hall in June so that the person is requested to pay at instructed places. Those who have bank account in designated financial facilities or Japan Post Bank can apply for account transfer system. It is recommended to use account transfer system to save payment time. In case of applying for the system, please do the necessary procedure at your financial facilities with bankbook and registered Inkan.

Light Vehicle Tax

Light Vehicle Tax is imposed on person who owns moped, small car, small special car, and small sized 2 wheelers. Even though you no longer own a car physically due to ownership transfer, selling the vehicle or having the vehicle stolen etc., the tax is imposed on you if you do not take necessary procedures for ownershiptransfer or vehicle scrapping. If you are in the afore-mentioned condition, take procedures for the purpose immediately.
Notification of Light Vehicle Tax is sent from city hall in May so that the person is requested to pay at instructed places.

In case of falling behind payment

After passing payment due, arrears occur. The longer the non-payment period is, the more sum of money is added. In case of judgment which declares malicious payment delay (Payment is not done in spite of repeated request etc.), deposit on bank account, property such as land, house, and car could be seized.

Certifications concerning Municipal Tax

Toyokawa city issues Certifications of Earnings and Municipal Tax (Municipal and Prefectural Tax, Property Tax, City Planning Tax, Corporate Municipal Tax, Light Vehicle Tax). They are charged except Payment Certification of Light Vehicle Tax for the purpose of car inspection. If necessary, certifications can be applied at Property Tax Division, branch offices (Ichinomiya, Otowa, Mito, and Kozakai), and Prio Service Center. Please bring ID Certification such as Residence Card.
