In Japan an Inkan/Seal works in the same way as handwritten
signatures. Mitome-in is used for daily tasks at home such as signing for the
delivery of packages. Jitsu-in is used when you buy a car or a house. A
registered seal is called a Jitsu-in. *It should not be easy to forge and
must be registered at the city hall. Only one Jitsu-in can be registered per
person.
◆People who may apply
Those who are registered as Toyokawa citizens and are 15 or over
◆Types of seals which can be registered
(1) If your registered name uses Chinese characters
(Kanji) the following options are available.
A. A seal that uses
your first and last name B. A seal that uses your last name only
C. A seal that uses
your first name only
(2) If your registered name uses the alphabet the
following options are available
A seal that uses either last, first or middle name or full name
(3) In cases where aliases are registered
You may use a seal that shows your registered alias.
※Alias is the Japanese name that is used in daily life instead of your
real name. Only one alias can be registered. A document showing your alias
e.g. a certificate from work, utility payment receipts, mail, is required to
register the alias.
◆Seals which can’t be registered
(1)A seal which doesn’t show your name as stated on
your original alien registration
(2)A seal that shows other things such as occupation,
qualification, etc.
(3)A seal that can easily lose shape such as a rubber
stamp.
(4)A seal which is more than 25mm and less than 8mm in
diameter
(5)A seal which doesn’t show its impression clearly
◆How to register
Bring the seal, which you wish to register, and your alien
registration card. The seal registration can be completed on the same day
after confirming your identification with the photo on the card. Then, we
will give you your seal registration card. When you need a Seal certificate,
bring the registration card.
