There are two main types of public health insurance.
1.Social Health Insurance(for employees of companies and
other business entities)
2.National Health Insurance(for those who do not belong to
workplace health insurance programs)
Those who have a contract of employment for two months or
longer and work for 3/4 or more of the average working hours and days must
enroll in Social Health Insurance. This is not voluntary but mandatory. The
premium is determined by the individual’s salary. The employer and the
subscriber each pay half. If you belong to the Social Health Insurance
program, you pay only 30% of * medical fees and you can receive childbirth
allowance and funeral expenses. * Also, you can receive High-cost Medical
Care Benefits if the *amount paid for a month exceeds a certain amount (the
amount depends on the salary).
All of the people who registered as Toyokawa citizens
except those who are enrolled in any other health insurance plan; their
dependents or welfare recipients must apply for National Health Insurance
(NHI). As in the case of Social Health Insurance, you pay only 30% of the
medical fees if you belong to National Health Insurance and you can receive
childbirth allowance and funeral expenses* Also, you can receive High-cost
Medical Care Benefits if the *amount paid for a month exceeds a certain
amount (the amount depends on the salary). The premium varies according to
the salary in the previous year. If you don’t belong to any public
insurance* schemes * when you apply for National Health Insurance, the
premium for up to two years is retroactively charged. If you can’t
apply for Social Health Insurance, apply for National Health Insurance.
Travel insurance is not public
insurance. You are not exempt from National Health Insurance because you pay
travel insurance.
Notify us at times like this!
The eligibility for participation in NHI starts from the
day when you lose other public insurance or move to Toyokawa. If you delay in
notifying us, you have to pay full medical expenses when you become suddenly
ill or are injured. The deadline is fixed to 14 days from the day above by
law. Notify us as soon as possible.
Your insurance card can’t be
used after you lose your eligibility due to moving out, etc. Make sure not to
forget to return it to the Insurance and Pension Division.
