When you become pregnant, see a doctor
at a maternity clinic and receive a certificate of pregnancy. Go to the Hoken
Center (Health Center) to receive your Maternal and Child health handbook.
This contains the pages to document your pregnancy, advice for raising
children and childbirth information such as the date and time of birth, the
place of birth, the hospital’s name, *immunization and health records
of your baby. Don’t forget to pick up this handbook because you have to
produce it when your baby gets a vaccination and has a checkup.
We provide parenting classes called
Papa-Mama Kyoshitsu so that you can learn how to bring up your baby.
There are many procedures to go
through after giving birth. First, you decide your baby’s name and
submit a birth notification form. An alien registration card is issued on the
basis of this information.
Second, apply for children’s
allowance. 10,000yen is paid for children under 3 years old and 5,000yen for
children from 3 years old until they graduate elementary school. Third-born
*and *later children can continue to receive 10,000 yen per month after becoming
3 years old. Bring your bankbook, Inkan(seal), certificate of income for
children’s allowance(If you didn’t live in Toyokawa on January
1.), health insurance card. Some other documents may be required *depending
on circumstances.
Parents must also apply for Child
Medical Expense Aid. If you are under National Health Insurance, follow the
NHI and Child Medical Expense Aid application process for your baby. You will
then receive a medical care certificate for your child. If you are insured
under the social health insurance scheme bring your insurance card to the
Insurance and Pension Division. Medical care certificates for children are
issued on the same day.
Medical checkups and immunizations are
provided at regular intervals at the Hoken Center (Health Center) during your
child’s infant stage. Check the public newsletter
“Toyokawa” issued every month to be sure not to miss them.
